Rongruja Saicheua heads up Governance Matters and its board performance evaluation program in her native Thailand where she is considered one of the country’s brightest talents and leading corporate governance experts.
The holder of a Master of Economics degree from Western Michigan University and a Bachelor of Business Administration and Marketing degree from Indiana University, the abundantly educated Rongruja has also completed a raft of highly-regarded certificates in directorships and corporate governance from numerous North American institutions.
Rongruja is a foundation member of the Thai IOD and joined the organisation at its inception in December 1999 to set up and manage the Institute’s Director Education Department. As the driver behind this bold and ground-breaking initiative, she took the lead role in designing and producing various Director training courses which not only drew recognition to the Thai IOD but helped to establish the programs as some of the most respected in the country.
She was also instrumental in working with the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD) to acquire the Thai rights to its Director Certification Program, which is today the Institute’s flagship training course and has helped to mould and shape some of the best corporate governance minds in Thailand.
As the Thai IOD’s Executive Vice President, Rongruja’s role extended to supervising many corporate governance related research projects and organising high-level seminars and forums to develop governance best practice across the country’s corporate sector.
More recently, she was recognised for her significant contribution to corporate governance across Thailand by being chosen to represent the country as its expert on the Association of Southeast Asian Nations’ (ASEAN) Corporate Governance Scorecard Project and its Capital Market Forum.
A special Instructor in Chulalongkorn University’s Faculty of Commerce and Accounting where she presents the ‘Role of the Director and Corporate Governance’ course to students, Rongruja brings vast experience in research, administration, finance, accounting and education and training to the Governance Matters family.
She started her career in the Research and Policy Department of Siam City Bank back in 1982 before serving as a Manager in the Accounting and Finance Department at the Petroleum Authority of Thailand and, immediately prior to joining the Thai IOD, was an Assistant Vice President in charge of training at Thailand’s leading securities company, Phatra Thanakit.
